
Dr. Diego L. Adarve - Biography

Dr. Diego Adarve was born in Medellin, Colombia, South America into a large family of 7 brothers and sisters. He attended high school in Bogota, where he was a volunteer with the Colombian Red Cross. After high school, Dr. Adarve moved with his father to Honduras, Central America where he attended the National University of Honduras, earning a degree as a Medical Doctor, and then post graduate training, earning a certification in Orthopedic Surgery & Trauma. In 1989, Dr. Adarve opened a practice in the city of La Ceiba, Honduras on the Caribbean where he served the city and its surrounding communities. During this time, he was a volunteer in the fire department and involved in rescue operations. Dr. Adarve was also an active member of Lions Club International, president of the La Ceiba Medical Society and a member of the Honduran Orthopedic Society. In his off time he was able to develop some acting skills and participated in several local productions.
Dr. Adarve has enjoyed a close relationship with his father. He has tremendous respect for his father who earned a Ph.D. in entomology from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. His father work for the United Nations in Rome, Italy in the office of the Food Agriculture Organization (FAO), he then returned to Honduras to teach entomology. This is where Dr. Adarve acquired his dedication to education and with his well deserved reputation it allowed him to start and pioneer a prestigious new bilingual school in La Ceiba. Besides being a founder he actively served as President. This not only created jobs but provided enriching opportunities for the students.
In 1997 he moved to Miami, Florida and worked as a House Physician at Baptist Hospital of Miami and as a surgical assistant. For three years, he assisted doctors in numerous surgical procedures in all medical specialties. During this time, he became acquainted with many podiatrists. Dr. Keith Kashuk, a well known and respected podiatric surgeon encouraged and challenged Dr. Adarve to enter the podiatric physician program at Barry University where he graduated as a Podiatric Physician in May 2004. His post graduate Podiatric residency training, specializing in foot and ankle surgery, was spent at Jackson Health System in Miami, graduating there in June 2007. Dr. Adarve has attended 2 medical schools and finished 2 surgical residencies that compliment each other giving him increased knowledge not found in our community. As a hybrid podiatric foot & ankle surgeon his previous background has laid the foundation for him to diagnose and treat complex pediatric deformities, perform foot and ankle reconstruction including ankle arthroscopy, repair trauma and the diseases that come with aging.
His commitment to his patients is to provide courteous and cordial treatment. As a result of his personal humility and integrity he has always held himself to the highest standards of professionalism.
Dr. Adarve has been married to his lovely bride, Patricia for 23 years. Patricia is also a physician educated in Honduras. They have two beautiful daughters. The oldest graduated with honors from the University of Miami business school and is employed at the agricultural company Cargill. Their youngest daughter is pursuing a degree in Sociology at the University of Central Florida. They are multilingual being able to communicate in English, Spanish, French and sign language.
In his spare time, Dr. Adarve enjoys the outdoors with his passion being bicycle riding. One of his dreams is being able to attend the Tour de France. He also likes camping, fishing and more than anything else spending time with his family.
He is very happy to come to southwest Florida to join Dr. Mickey Gordon at Gulfcoast Foot & Ankle Center and looks forward to being part of a team that serves Collier and Lee County attempting to alleviate all their foot and ankle problems.
