Dr. Spain was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He graduated from Oskaloosa Senior High School, 3rd in his class. Dr. Spain was the first of his family to attend college. He attended Iowa University in Iowa City from 1974-1977 and received early admission to the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine. He graduated in 1981 with a combination doctorate and Bachelor of Science degree. Dr. Spain was offered three surgical residency programs and decided on The Podiatry Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA where he completed the program in 1982.

Following residency, Dr. Spain practiced in Greensburg, PA for 26 years. Twelve years ago he formed Laurel Podiatry Associates, LLC with Dr. Shawn Echard. They ran three office locations. Dr. Spain recently left Pennsylvania and has moved to Naples and lives just off Marco Island.

Dr. Spain is double board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and the American Board of Podiatric Orthopedics & Primary Podiatric Medicine. In the past, he has belonged to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons as well as the American College of Foot and Ankle Orthopedics. He is a lifelong member of the American Podiatric Medical Association.

His continuing education has concentrated on podiatric surgery, diabetic foot care and wound healing.

As a resident, he had the good fortune of meeting his wife, Deb, who worked as an x-ray technician. They were married and honeymooned on Marco Island. They were so impressed that they returned every year afterwards until their recent move. Greg and Deb have two children. The oldest, Megan, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and works for the USDA in Newark, NJ. Matthew, the youngest, attends Edison State College. They also have Kasey, a 9 year old beagle-collie mix, who is everyone's best friend.

Greg and Deb are co-owners of Business Partner of Naples-Marco Island which specializes in promotional products, embroidered apparel and temporary banners and signage. They are members of St. Finbarr Catholic Community Church.
